Give Them A Leg Up.

When you donate money, goods, or time, you’re helping over 500 women and children kick poverty and abuse to the curb every year. So, every cent and every second you give can be just what someone needs to change their life. And you can rest assured your contributions are being put to uncommonly good use. Saint John’s is a program unlike any other. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, we help women and their families change their lives for the better through our subsidiary businesses – Plates Midtown, Plates Café and Catering, and First Steps. When you choose Plates Café, Plates Midtown and First Steps, you are helping to provide job training and supportive services to women in need. That means far more efficiency and efficacy – and far less waste.

Monetary Donations

More than 550 women and their children are homeless on any given night in Sacramento County, representing a nearly 28% increase since 2009. Sadly, women and children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population both locally and nationally. While Saint John’s has grown its capacity by 60% in recent years, now serving 180 women and children daily, 300 women and children remain on our daily waiting list because we simply don’t have the facilities, nor the financial capacity, to serve them. Saint John’s Program for Real Change, which operates by far the largest shelter in the region, offers an 18-month comprehensive program designed to result in self-sufficiency and eradicate the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
The journey from dependence to independence for mothers and their children costs around $37,000, on average. When you donate, you’re contributing directly to their success. Donations can be made quickly and easily online
